Technical
Taltarni's estate grown reds are renowned as some of Australias longest lived and most cellar-worthy.
vintage
2023 consisted of a moderate grwoing season in the Pyrenees, ideal for full flavoured, cool-climate reds. Ample winter rainfall and an early spring saw the vineyard come back to life and produce fruit over a long growing season. With a long ripening period the vines produced fruit rich in concentration and full flavour.
winemaking
Harvested in the cool of the morning the fruit was destemmed into small open‐top fermenters to minimise any mechanical impact while also retaining small portion of whole bunch. Using a combination of ferment techniques including heading down, plunging and pump-over resulted in a finely balanced wine driven by its varietal flavours and natural structure. The parcels were co‐inoculated for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. It took ten days on skins to extract the perfect balance of structure and aromatics prior to pressing. The wine was then allowed to mature in 15% new and seasoned French oak barriques for 12 months.
